Enrolling at university in Montpellier: CVEC, tuition fees and Learning Agreement
Administrative enrolment, CVEC certificate, new fees for non-EU students, Erasmus paperwork: what it takes to be properly enrolled at the University of Montpellier or Paul-Valéry for the 2026 intake.

Two dates decide everything here.
Two enrolments, not one
- Administrative enrolment (inscription administrative) makes you a student of the university: you pay the fees and get your student card and certificate of enrolment.
- Academic enrolment (inscription pédagogique) is where you choose your courses, groups and exams. It comes afterwards, with your faculty or department.
Without the first one, there’s no student card and no certificate of enrolment — so no health insurance, no housing aid and no residence permit renewal.
Step 1: the CVEC certificate, before anything else
The CVEC (contribution de vie étudiante et de campus, the student and campus life fee) funds campus life: health, sport, culture, welcome services. It costs €105 for 2026-2027.
- You need a CVEC certificate to enrol, even if you’re exempt.
- You get it in a few minutes on cvec.etudiant.gouv.fr.
- Exempt: students with a need-based scholarship, refugees, people with subsidiary protection and asylum seekers.
- Exchange students, Erasmus+ for instance: if you don’t pay tuition fees in France, you don’t pay the CVEC.
Step 2: tuition fees
National rates for 2026-2027:
| Degree | National rate | "Differentiated" fees (non-EU) |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor (licence) | €178 | €2,902 |
| Master | €255 | €3,950 |
| Doctorate | €398 | — |
What changes in 2026. Until now, the University of Montpellier exempted international students from differentiated fees. Since the 2026 intake, it charges them. The national rate still applies to:
- nationals of the EU, the EEA, Switzerland, Monaco and Andorra;
- students from Québec;
- doctoral students;
- students who have been tax-resident in France for at least two years on 1 January 2026;
- refugees and people with subsidiary protection.
Exempted in 2025-2026? You keep your exemption until the end of your degree cycle.
At Paul-Valéry, fee exemption requests are filed after administrative enrolment, until 30 November 2026.
Step 3: online administrative enrolment
At the University of Montpellier:
- Log in from a computer, not a phone, between 7 am and 11 pm, 24 to 72 hours after confirming your admission.
- Upload your documents to the attachments platform.
- Pay by card, cheque or bank transfer. Some faculties let you pay in three instalments.
Documents most often requested:
- ID card or passport;
- residence permit, visa or receipt (non-EU);
- CVEC certificate for 2026-2027;
- ID photo;
- civil liability insurance certificate;
- secondary school diploma, with a sworn translation;
- "Études en France" admission certificate (non-EU).
Your enrolment is only complete once your student card and certificate of enrolment have been issued.
If you’re an Erasmus+ or exchange student
- The Learning Agreement is the contract that lists your courses. It’s signed by you, your home university and your host university, often online (Online Learning Agreement).
- Changing courses: at Paul-Valéry, you can do it during one week at the start of each semester. Elsewhere, ask the international relations office.
- The Certificate of Attendance must be signed when you arrive and before you leave. It proves to your home university that you were here: don’t forget it.
- Who to contact: at the University of Montpellier, your faculty’s international relations office; at Paul-Valéry, erasmus-in@univ-montp3.fr.
If you’re from outside the EU
The Études en France procedure, on the Campus France website, leads to your admission and then your student visa. Once in France, you have three months to validate that visa online: it’s all in the student residence permit guide.
Once you’re enrolled
- Your student card is also a multi-service card, with the Izly e-wallet to pay at the Crous.
- A Crous meal costs €1 for all students since 4 May 2026, with an active Izly account.
- Your digital account (ENT, student email) is activated from the email you receive after enrolling.
- University libraries: biu-montpellier.fr.

- SAIEC, the one-stop welcome desk for international students: 8 rue de l’École Normale, tram 1, Stade Philippidès stop, 04 67 41 67 87. From September to November, 9 am to 4 pm.
- The University of Montpellier’s Welcome Week runs from 21 to 24 September 2026: a chance to meet other students.
